Westlake Boys High School launch Confucius Classroom

Congratulations to Westlake Boys High  School on the launch of their Confucius Classroom on 7 March 2016. They  are the ninth Confucius Classroom in the Auckland region.

Consul General Xu Erwen and the headmaster of Westlake Boys High School David Ferguson unveiling the plaque.

Among the guests to celebrate the unveiling of the  plaque was Dr Jian Yan, National MP and Consul General Xu Erwen. The  significance of the occasion was clearly felt by guests, students and  teachers.

A student spoke in Chinese, sharing his experience with  the language and encouraging other students at the school to take this  great opportunity of becoming a Confucius Classroom to really move  forward with their Chinese proficiency.

Ms Nora Yao, Director, Confucius  Institute in Auckland told the audience of her admiration for Westlake  Boys High School and what they had achieved in their Chinese programme.  She expressed that the school could be a showcase amongst North Shore  schools for it’s exemplary Chinese programme.

The visitors also had the opportunity to  take a brush and apply some strokes in a calligraphy class, alongside  students. To the visitor’s further delight they also met other students  at morning tea, all of who introduced themselves in Chinese.

We applaud Westlake Boys High School for establishing such a commendable  Chinese programme and taking the Confucius Classroom journey and look  forward to hearing about their further progress.
