Research shows that boys do better in all-boys school. Academically, our students achieve at the highest level, consistently placing Westlake Boys as the top school in the country for attaining NCEA Scholarship. The majority of our graduates continue to study at tertiary level, with many going on to attend some of the most prestigious universities in the world. We cater for all abilities, providing the necessary support to ensure that students have the opportunity to achieve their potential.​

We want our students to enjoy their learning, recognising that a positive learning experience leads to better outcomes. Our dedicated teachers at Westlake strive to make lessons engaging and applicable, taking the time to understand each student's learning needs. We encourage students to think independently, take charge of their learning journey, and embrace challenges with courage and creativity. Our ultimate goal is for Westlake students to graduate with the curiosity and enthusiasm of lifelong learners. 

Extra support

If students need extra support with their learning, we have an excellent Learning Centre who will work alongside and help them to set and achieve goals. If students have a particular strength in any area, we will extend and challenge them through our academic extension pathways. Our excellent ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) teachers will support learners who need to increase their confidence with English or provide extra help if needed to improve their skills.
